Frozen Sunrise

Temperatures plummeted last week and provided the perfect opportunity to capture ice forming in the Great South Bay. The last chance I had before the weather got warmer was Saturday morning. I set my alarm for 6AM and caught a gorgeous sunrise at Captree State Park. The 15ÂşF temperatures kept many people home and I had the park all the myself for a peaceful morning.

Summer Throwback

Hope everyone is staying warm as the temperatures approach below freezing this week! Thinking of warmer days so I wanted to share these images from a sunset back in August at Robert Moses State Park.

Signs of Spring in D.C.

Last weekend I took my first trip to Washington DC! I always wanted to go around the beginning of Spring, and it was perfect timing to see some of the cherry blossoms and magnolias that started to bloom.

My boyfriend and I drove down for a long weekend from Friday to Monday. We stayed at the Sofitel DC and it was so luxurious. It was conveniently located a few blocks from the National Mall, but we still did a ton of walking to see all of the monuments and museums.

I loved how the blooming trees provided so many angles and opportunities for different shots of the same monument. Hope you enjoy the photos and Happy Spring!

Return to Top of the Rock

Over 10 years ago, I visited Rockefeller Center’s Top of the Rock Observatory. That was also during my pre-DSLR days, and I was using a point and shoot camera to grab some shots.

When I finally purchased a DSLR, I knew I wanted to go back but the opportunity just didn’t line up with certain plans and bad weather. I’ve had a DSLR for almost 6 years now, and at last I made it to Top of the Rock!

I went up during sunset and although a little crowded, I really enjoyed the views and grabbed plenty of photos. It’s definitely one of the best views of the city. I used my wide angle lens and a telephoto to grab a variety of shots. Enjoy!

Follow the Light

About a week and a half ago before the rainy weather began, I caught a sunset at Robert Moses with some really beautiful light.

I explored all around the area in my usual favorite places – the beach, the path to the Fire Island Lighthouse and the Great South Bay. I also took another way off the lighthouse path and found a walkway to the beach that looks like a road, which made for some shots that I really love.

Enjoy and here’s to hoping the weather goes back to normal soon!

30 Seconds of Sun & Clouds

Daytime long exposures are a real favorite of mine. It allows capturing something that can’t be seen with the naked eye. Time and movement within a still photo. The golden light and cloud trails make any landscape look absolutely breathtaking.

The photos below were all taken at Captree State Park in Long Island, New York. Enjoy.
