Hello everyone! I wanted to use this post to update you on what’s been going on and what I have planned in the next coming weeks.
The past two months were a little rough, but finally the worst of it is over. I had minor foot surgery (on both feet) which prevented me from going out and shooting as much as I wanted. Being forced to sit around and rest only made that worse. But I’m recovering extremely well and hoping to get out and shoot soon, maybe as soon as this week!
In the meantime, I still have some edits I’d love to do and drone video footage from a flight back in the fall at Sunken Meadow that I have yet to review. Of course I still have photos from more recent shoots to share as well which I’ll be doing on social media.
My focus is going to locations that are local and accessible that I haven’t been to. Some of these include Caumsett State Park, Hecksher State Park, some locations in Upstate NY and the Long Island City Piers – yes I can’t believe I still haven’t gone there either. I also want to catch a few sunrises, visit Montauk again and definitely photograph more people and brands.
I’m excited to get started on all of these projects and can’t wait to share them with you when they are completed! Be sure to follow me on social media for more updates. The links are in the right column (viewing from a desktop) and at the bottom of the page (viewing from mobile).
One thing I love about winter is the opportunity to visit locations that people don’t normally visit this time of year due to the cold weather. We had some snow here on Long Island the other evening and the next morning I headed out to capture some snowy beach scenes.
First I went to Captree State Park, a small island located in the Great South Bay off of the Robert Moses Causeway. I love it here and the 360 degree views of the bay are great any time of day.
Then I headed down to Robert Moses to catch a quick glimpse of the ocean before a walk along the Fire Island Lighthouse path. A chilly day but well worth it to capture these winter beach scenes.
Later that day I had a portrait shoot and will be sharing those photos in next week’s blog post! Have a great week!
It’s been a little over a week since the New Year began and although I’m a little late on this, I finally determined a few things I plan to accomplish this year with my work.
Just Go Shoot | The number one thing, which is the most difficult to do is to go out and photograph as much as possible. I looked back on my 2016 photos and all I could think was “that’s it?” It’s no easy task when so many factors in life come into play and prevent it from happening. But there are tons of times where I made up excuses, or was just plain lazy. But this year I’m really going to challenge myself. And committing to posting to this blog once a week is also another motivating factor.
Chasing Stars | Something else that I’ve been wanted to do for years is photograph the Milky Way in the night sky. For anyone who is unfamiliar with what I’m talking about, a simple Google search will do the trick. I have always been fascinated by space and capturing this unique site in our sky would be incredible. So many factors have to line up for it to be successful. The right time of year, the right time of day, little to no moonlight, and somewhere far and clear of city lights. This summer I hope to make this happen.
Wanderlust | Right after my passion for photography comes my passion for travel. I love to visit different places in the world to explore new landscapes, cultures and experiences. It makes me feel alive in a whole new way when I have my camera in my hand in a city I’ve never seen. The number one place I’d love to see currently is Iceland. I would also love to see some of the National Parks in the US, like Yellowstone, Arches, or Joshua Tree. My goal is to just go somewhere I haven’t been at some point this year.
Finally I just want to continue growing and improving as a photographer. I would love to share my work with more people in any way I can. I appreciate all the love and support from my family, friends, followers and more. Thank you for reading and I hope you are able to accomplish your 2017 goals as well.
